Re: Bad signals on lead(bullets) - Spectrum XLT & DFX

Welcome!! I have a bounty hunter and it is not very sensitive to lead, in fact it can pick up a musketball no deeper than around 4 inches. some of the small pistol shot it can barely pick up.

ARE YOU IN RELIC MODE? I HAVE USED ONE FOR YEARS AND ABSOUTELY NO PROBLEMS
WITH BULLETS. I USE RELIC MODE IN CIVIL WAR SITES.
GOOD LUCK

Re: Bad signals on lead(bullets) - Spectrum XLT & DFX

I have a "custom" program saved. It is pretty "hot" - meaning extremely sensitive. I'm wondering if it's my Bottle cap reject(1) or my preamp gain turned up too high(5).
Does anyone have some custom program settings they would like to share???

Re: Bad signals on lead(bullets) - Spectrum XLT & DFX

I use bottlecap reject 1 and a far higher Pre-Amp (normally maximum with reduced A/C to maintain stability. This is with Relic mode on the XLT. Sensitivity to lead is excellent.
Have you got another coil to try ? I remember a post several years ago where a machine was insensitive to gold and lead but only with the stock 9.5 coil.

dcooper1 - try reducing the gain on your detector - instead of an 8 or higher try reducing to 5 and try again. wayne

Pre amp only goes to 4. That wouldn't affect it. It's hard to say. You could have one adj off and it will throw the unit off. I run my bottle cap at 10. Pre amp at 4 and sense at 85. It hits bullets with no problem. What do you have for the accept rej. If your blocking out lower numbers your probably losing sensitivity to lead. Not sure because I don't have your unit in my hands. Go back through the program and see if there are any mistakes. It can easily happen loading up a program.
