I had the chance to hit a private yard today and got nothing but junk, clad, and just as I was about to give up, this nifty bank token from Noel State Bank in Chicago. It was at 1601 N. Milwaukee, and the Midwest Bank now occupies the building.

Bank token small.webp

I checked the on line token database and saw a $30 value attached to it (I think), although dug it's probably a lot less. It's about the size of a 50 center. No silver today, but at least I wasn't empty handed. I hope those of you who didn't get out and score today can do it tomorrow!

Sweet find buddy!!! :headbang:

That is a super awesome token! Did the online site give a date for the token? I assume it was back in the day when $5 was a pretty big deposit.

I get a buck for every fiver I put in! I'm in!

Cool token with intresting history to it. Great job picking that one up Neal !

Always nice when a little surprise comes up at the end of a hunt.
Cool token!

No date was given. The bank opened in 1915, but I don't think this token is anywhere near that old. Can't find when it closed.

Joseph R. Noel was still President of his bank in 1921.
My guess is this bank failed during the Depression.
Good call, Mackaydon. I found out that the bank went into receivership in 1931. It wasn't dissolved until January 1948.

Great avatar, too!

Neil, always with the fascinating finds! That's quite a token you got there. I'm sure it was a long way from Wicker Park. But I know the bank that is there now. It's near one of my favorite little restaurants.
