Hey guys and gals,
New to the forum, have been lurking for several weeks now. Gleaning what info I could on metal detectors and gold panning. I own a landscaping business and do not work during the winter and have picked these two up to fill my time. Wanted to say thanks to everyone that have been nice enough to post replies to all the questions out there as they have answered a lot of mine. I borrowed a friends Quick Draw II last week and was able to get out today. Went to a church built in 1786, after getting permission I started my hunt. The lady that lives next door said that there were people there all the time hunting so I was not very hopeful on finding a lot if anything at all. Instead of focusing my time directly around the building. I went out from it some. There was an old concrete slab that used to be the foundation for a small structure of some sort. After about two hours of digging every beep, I found my first coin. It was a 1949 plain mercury dime. What a difference in the sound on a coin versus a nail or other small piece of metal. I don't mean tone but it beeps at every angle without fail. Another hour goes by and I decided to go across the street to the cemetery. In KY there are a lot of rock "slave walls". This particular slave wall separated the cemetery from the field. Thinking back to how this would have looked 100+ years ago, it looked like a good place to "park yer horse". I found several unidentifiable (by me) widgets, a key marked chateau, a 1904 barber dime (can still read the liberty on the headband, I am a newbie but I hear that is a good thing
) and a token. The token reads on one side Louisville Railway company and on the reverse it says School Ticket. I will post pics tomorrow as I can not seem to find my digi tonight.
Again thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond to everyone. It has helped me a lot. Will probably be buying the ACE 250 in the next week or so. I think I like the idea of a pinpointer feature. I am having a hard time narrowing down my plug with the Quick Draw II.
Thanks for reading
