I am on my fourth battery pack for my Excal 1000. >:(

After a few uses I notice small cracks on the top threaded area where the connection is made. These cracks continue to grow as I continue to use them and in the case of two of them, the threaded area becomes useless as it cracks apart. I am not applying any form of excessive stress on this area of the battery pack. I am definitely not over tightening the connection, I bearly tighten the connection for fear of cracking the threads. I don't over tighten the set screws either and the cracks form else where. I disconnect and rinse the battery pack connection and wipe it down after every use... ???

Anybody else experience this situation? Any idea on what I may be doing wrong to cause the problem?

I cracked one battery pack by dropping it, I haven't personally had any other problems with mine. Do you waist mount your controls or is it shaft mounted?

The first two were hip mounted and so I thought maybe that was the problem. My latest two are shaft mounted and I'm still having this problem. I do work my detectors to death though, thats for sure.

I know waist mounting controls does put a lot more stress on the controls. I stop doing it myself, and keep controls on my straight shaft now...

Check to see what voltage your charger is putting out, it is possible it is over charging the battery and causing the battery to overheat, if there is any salt moisture in case, the combination of salt moisture and battery could be creating gas and that is stressing the case.. For it to happen on 3 cases suggests it may not be the case but something else. ........... Just a suggestion, and I could be completely off base....

Good luck....
