beach and Umax???

I believe what you are talking about are the erratic chirps and chatters caused by diferent minerals in the sand. Can be very frustrating but, there are machines out there that will "stabilize" under those conditions. Try turning your sensitivity down and play with different discrimination patterns. Next time get a Minelab! lol

The U max will work!! / I ve got a ML/GT and Umax ! You have to learn the curve of that unit on that beach. sen down to 7 (mayb lower) at the waters edge and discrim to slightly above iron and all metal on the dry sand / then discrim when you find something prior to digging it ! This works on my unit /depth is dog gone good at sen @7 (< 1yr old) every unit is diff however! By the way the noises have to b learned comes from knowing your unit. But happens it on the beach! Just part of the Hunt! good luck ! diggstown

mongo14904,

It's the salt water, it would not do that if you were at a fresh water beach. The best you can do with the Tesoro Silver uMax is to set the sensitivity way down and try varying the discrimination setting. If you had a detector with ground balance, that would also help some to eliminate the problem. The Tesoro Tiger Shark has a dedicated salt water mode that handles the salt water problem very well. Pulse induction metal detectors are not bothered by the salt water.
