Beach Find.....Ceramic Tile? Plate? Swastika symbol

Found this while walking along the shore of Lake Erie this morning. Does anyone have a clue at to what it may be?

This piece measures 1 inch in length.

I think the swastika was used long before the nazi's claimed it as their symbol.
The symbol was originally associated with positive vibes...I think some Native Americans used this symbol as well, but not sure.
Awesome pottery shard either way!

It is really nice. First time I looked at it, I assumed it nothing to do with nazis. It is an ancient symbol, as highnam stated. As such, I would consider it prehistoric.
