That's interesting..It's snowing today, but if I get down there tomorrow I'll report back...I hope they aren't just burying storm or construction type debristhat would be gross...There is a ton of old pier debris beneath the sand in that stretch, so possibly they are scooping some of it up and getting rid of it..I think you have peeked my curiosity
The sad part is that even with most of the last replens sand gone the dredgers are going there next after Ocean City, as AC is supposed to start in May and into the summer![]()
I watch the dozers working the beach replenishment areas and It amazes me they don't sink into the sandy muck.
These beaches were extensively replenished. Even with sandy they are not down to pre- replen levels in many areas.
For example, Octy hasn't made a reappearance. Still buried beneath tons of sand. If she ever does the hunt will be on!!!!!!!
That said, that hunters are coming off AC beaches with old silver shows that there has been a pretty heavy duty mixing.
Yes even all the cement trucks and Tractor Trailors lately,
I didn't see any sink, although they did redo the boardwalk where the Cement trucks crossed
after. Perhaps one broke something.
Octy ?
They generally have actual cement at some of the boardwalk crossings for this sort of thing..It's rare to see, but it does exist...
Octy is a name some out of towners gave to a piece of Steeplechase Pier that is buried in the sand there..It is a piece of concretion with rebar sticking out that looks like tentacles, so I guess they gave it a cute name..
When it was exposed that beach was down near the hard pan and hunters were finding some amazing old silvers and relics..Unfortunately I missed that as I didn't get back into hunting until a year later![]()
I spent a weekend in Atlantic City every year before the Casinos.
from about 1965 up maybe earlier
most of the time was spent on Steel Pier, we always stayed at the Kentucky Hotel
Never actually rode the rides, or knew the name of that pier,
was on it a few times, just never rode the rides.
I'd say Steeplechase Pier from your description
I think that Kentucky Hotel may still be standing... Not sure, but it wouldn't be the nicest place to vacation nowadays..LOL
The pic you highlighted with the arrow is the pipe supports I mentioned, so you said they were digging just North of there..Hmmm ??
Wasn't the nicest back thenBut it was cheap
in the arial , Looks like parking lot now.
I'm fairly certain it was between Pacific & Boardwalk.
And it definitely was on the south (west) side of the street

yea sort of the area you see the black line in my last pic.
it may actually be from them
AC is still very rough. In the last two or three years two tourist car jacked out of casino parking garages and killed. Another shot in the head but survived. Both car jacked for their cars. Two tourist killed last year on the street, stabbed to death. Petty crime is rampant. Drunks and drug fiends on the beach. Police could give a crap. Too busy making the cash register ring by ticketing tourist for silly BS. The big white lie is that the caisino district is safe, but not even close. You realy need to watch yourself.
And, once a block or so off the boardwalk, much of the city is no different than any other inner city ghetto.
When i go, I'm always in one of my old cars. When i park i leave nothing, not even a baseball cap showing on the seats. Drug Fiends will break your windows doing hundreds in damage just to get pennies off the console. Learned that the hard way!!!
Truth is AC has been royally screwed by the politicians and mismanaged by its own inept city government. One that like too many places has seen more than it's share of corruption.
