I'm no longer in Phoenix, I'm in Stanton, Texas. Have not done any metal detecting for a long time, am working and saving money for a sailboat, so I can sail to Europe. Spend a lot of my free time learning about sailing and trying to determine if it is doable, based on the costs, or some other option, regardless want to go to Europe when I retire and travel . . . . goal now it to retire by end of 2023. Good luck to everyone here in your endeavors for what you seek, and adventures.

Another choice to consider: Fly to Europe and lease or buy a boat there, then sail the Meditteranean Sea--thereby avoiding the risks of a transatlantic crossing by sailboat--and being able to come ashore any night you wish.

Did you practice sailing, there in Phoenix? Or in Texas? Have you ever operated a sailboat? Sounds very ambitious for a newbie. Have you ever been out on the open Atlantic? Been in mountainous seas? It's a very exciting goal.
