I would be the last one to be accused of being smart but a lamp base sure seems to be what that is! I have found other parts of lamps but never the base or tank, what have you. Bet it gave a big sig on your detector.

A type of smudge pot? Most of them were round but without any other indications of spots that something would attach to, I'm thinking smudge pot.

Possible a lantern. I have seen metal based burners that are similar to lanterns but with short globes (or open flames) used in egg brooders from pre-electric days. Same for livestock water troughs. The burner goes in a channel beneath to keep the water from freezing up.

Another oddity from this sight. My guess is the base of a kerosene lamp. What do you think?
The large hole in the middle is threaded. It's about 10 inches across.
I believe this is a construction Oil Lamp used back in 1910 - 1950. they would use them to mark hazards at night. this was before the flashing lights barricades.

Here's a possibility. It's a Railroad lantern early 1900s. Nice old find there Ken.

Looks like part of an oil lamp

I would have to say the railroad lamp has it, seeing that the sight is surrounded by tracks that go back over 100 years.
thanks guys,
Mike
