Update: I found some old maps and identified the family land west of SR, east of Sebastopol. Google Earth revealed several sites I want to check out.
I drove to the area and there are many homes around the area and now new homes in/near the sites I intended to check. The history states this was a farm. Not sure about back in the day, but, it really is a large swale. It appears the only farm-able land was at the southern portion. This is not my own opinion, but that of a few ranch friends in the area that knew the history of the area.

I still like the story. However, think I'll focus on other more accessible targets.
