Found this at The Battle of Athens State Park, (on private property). Talked to the park ranger and he doesnt think it came from the battle. He said after the battle the troops moved on to Georgia and Mississippi to fight other battles. He thinks a soldier brought it back with him. He said this was common practice for soldiers.

Hi Lucky,

Unique find! Welcome to TN forum.

HH :)

Hey, Lucky, that's a beauty. I'm glad you posted it. :)

Are you going to post pictures of those great coins you were telling be about? ;)

Hello Lucky, & Welcome to the forum...
Very nice button, I did a little google'ing and found a few of them...
The ones at this site are from the civil war:
http://www.relicman.com/butcmp.htm
All of those that I see on that site are backmarked with, "Hyde & Goodrich N.O.".
Can you see any backmark on the one you have?

I also found a pic of some about 3/4's the way down this page:
http://www.quartermastershop.com/buttons.htm
There isn't much information on them here, not sure if they're from the civil war, or replicas...

Either way, Nice find...WTG!!!
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Can not read anything on the back. Took it to a civil war collector and he told me it was a real CW button. He also said they sell from 300.00 to 2500.00 depending on condition.
