Found this shield nickel Monday after some gentle cleaning up I could make out the numbers 187 for the year
best find so far!

congrats! I've only found 1 or 2 shielded nickels and they seem not to hold up well. At least you can see a partial date!

Thanks 3 friends of mine and myself went back a few days later found 2 Indian heads a double gilt button 2 flat buttons and a hammered copper coin that we can't id yet. I think I've finally found a good spot.
