Was made just yesterday! Up until then my best find for the year was a Barber Dime. My new detecting buddy Joey invited me out to some old settlements in Texas. He was cleaning up some good relics, I had only gotten an old buckle. I then hit my only coin for the day, and what a coin it is! 1853 Dime!! I owe the credit for this to Joey, he put me on the spot, I just swung the coil ;D

Very nice coin, you must be pretty excited over it. See they are still out there! How strong a reading did you get? Was it deep?

It was a solid hit at about 5 inches. We were hunting some very iron cluttered fields. I know there are more coins there hiding amongst the iron. I am so stoked about this coin. It has been a long while since I found a seated.

What kind of detector do you use to get around all of the iron?

Nice variety coin. Nice shape too.
I'll bet there are more there. Dig those iffy signals.

I used an MXT and a DFX at this site. Both the stock coil in the less cluttered areas, and the Eclipse 5.3 to work in the areas with a lot of iron. We were actually just doing more scouting than anything this time. We now have a good idea of what we are up against there. It will take a small coil and working slow in the field where the dime was found.

Nice find. Do you have a pic of the back? Funny how the arrows don't line up on the date.

Nice find! LOL.. I don't know what's harder to find, old coins or someone like your buddy Joey to help you find good locations. Being a newbie I'm hoping to meet a few nice folks like Joey too. :)
