Hunted one of the residential properties that my employer owns tonight for two hours.
Turned out to be the best hunt I've had.....so far. Found a fair amount of clad (for me
anyway), quite a few zincolns and some copper pennies -- including a 1952D wheatie.
That's my first wheatie and it was a signal that I wasn't going to dig -- I think I'm starting
to get what everyone means about the deeper signals. It was between 5 and 6" deep
and I was stoked when I flipped it over and saw the word "CENT" on the back! One of
my goals has been met. There are other similar signals in the yard, but I need
to work on zeroing in on the deeper targets better. The home dated back to the early
1900's, so there should be some silver in there too.

Anyway, here's a pic of my finds from tonight. Does anyone have an idea what the thing
to the left of the button could be? It rings like crazy with the detector, but looks like a
rough rock with sharp edges. I was wondering if it was slag, but it doesn't really look
metallic.....
Oh yeah, the toy car was an eye find -- not much metal on the new ones. LOL.

And, just for kicks, here's a pic of all of my finds up prior to tonight. I bought my detector
in mid-April -- my first -- and am having a blast trying to figure things out. Great hobby!

Glad you found one of your goal's.................silver should not be far behind...................

p.s. that thing looks like a metallic rock......... :dontknow:

Congrats on your first wheatie!
Cleaning out the surface finds will allow you to get those deeper masked signals.

Great job thus far and congrats on the wheatie!

The "rock" looks to me like a piece of crushed slag. Can you post a closer pic of it? It resembles the slag we used to run through the crusher for roadbase out at the old copper smelter.

Thanks for the comments everyone -- it's appreciated. :icon_sunny: Thanks for the votes of confidence
in finding the older stuff soon -- things are starting to make more and more sense every time I go out.

Plehbah, just wanted to say I always enjoy reading your comments -- always enlightening and humorous. :notworthy:

Dr. Grip, I'll try to get a closer pic up when I get home tonight. I don't have the macro setting on my
current camera, but we'll see how it goes.....

Artzstuff1, I'm already treasure bit and I'm not really looking for a cure for it. LOL.

Thanks again to all.

way to go on your 1st wheatie...silver and gold are sure to come if you keep on the way your going

Congrats on your finds and I think the other thing might be coal slag.
People used to burn coal and I have found some of these pieces.
