1st - I noticed this is your very first post - so, welcome aboard from the great state of Pennsylvania (USA).

2nd - You might consider browsing Sub-Forums: Michigan for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.
3rd - Whatever MD you finally decide on - please consider buying one from one of

If you're going to be hunting for copper most of the time, you probably don't need target Id and all the bells and whistles. Most, if not all, detectors respond well with copper so I'd suggest a basic dig and beep machine like the Tesoros. However, I'd also suggest that you purchase one that has manually adjustable ground balance. In that vein I'll suggest watching for a clean, used Bandito II umax, an Eldorado umax or search for a good buy on the newer Outlaw or Vaquero. Most of the lower end new (price wise) detectors have preset ground balance regardless of the other bells and whistles and in mineralized ground that may be a handicap for what you want to do.
