What would you suggest for around $500.00 for a first time user? I will be using it in parks, playgrounds and beaches. Thanks

:You may want to take a look at Minelad X-Terra machines. They have the 30, 50 and 70. For a couple hundred dollars more you can have the X-Terra-70. It is one awesome machine, light weight and very easy to learn to operate. I have found coins to 11". Check out WWW.find'streasures.com and click on X-Terra machines.

first off where do you live, and what are you intrested in finding, is a used machine an option? the minlabe are nice xt-50 whites mxt or m-6, or many of the tesoro line with lifetime warranty. used would be a mxt, xt70, teknetics t-2 these three are all high performance and simular in there capabilitys the xt 70 probably the most versitile

I had 600.00 to spend on a new detector.and I wound up with a Tesoro UMax silver for 240.00...no frills and no BS machine..it will find the goodies and pretty damn deep!!

Well everyone is telling you their favorite. It really is what you prefer to use. All have flaws and pluses. I use a really cheap one and do just as good as others, and those with $2000 ones aren't really doing that much better. I use Bounty Hunter Quick Silver, it has an LCD screen and only 3 buttons, quick and easy to use $169
Also the garrett ACE 250, it has a built in pinpointer but its also heavy $212, but whatever you get I highly recommend getting a White's Bullseye II pinpointer. That thing is incredible, you can get them for $79
