Found this guy today on a site that up until now refused to turn up anything datable. 1867 2 cent piece! Great find and great clue. Any thoughts on possibly teasing out some more detail without damaging the coin?

CANT HELP WITH CLEANING BUT THAT IS A COOL FIND!

Cleaning any further and you will just remove detail IMO.

Great save! As to cleaning, someone smarter than I will have to weigh in. Back when I was finding old coppers the thing was to soak them in olive oil, but I'm not sure that's still current and there may be better ways now.

Olive oil over time makes them too dark for my taste. I'd rather use Coincare or similar.
