Best TS find

Probably a lot of mint redline hotwheels for $35, sold most for $660 and kept the best 3 worth around $300 for free!

It also for me addicted to hot wheels tho...

Single item was a Curta Calculator that appeared to have been never used $1.95 at a Goodwill and sold for $1500.00 that night.

Multiple items were 15 complete WWII British Battledress jacket and trouser sets...they all appeared to be "new" and had rare (though I forget now) patches on them. I really thought they were reproductions. I had them looked at and they were legit. They were $9.99 each set at the same Goodwill as the calculator. I ran them all as an auction and the lowest I got was $400 for one set and one went for $850...think the total was $7000 or so. Cant remember the exact figure as it was a couple years ago.

Always wondered how all those British uniforms showed up at a Goodwill in the states.

I have never made any huge scores, but have found several books that sold for over $150.00, cooking items that sold for$80.00 to $100.00 and lots of things that I made 10 times the money I paid. Never know what you are going to find at a thrift store.

A Walt Disney-designed Vernon Kilns Fantasia vase. Bought it for $1.50, suspecting it was something good. Sold for $1500 on eBay. :cat:

Goodwill had sterling silver plates for $1.99 a pair. They had a complete set of eight and they were bread plates. Paid six dollars and I believe they were close to 17 ounces Of silver.

Another time they had over half a flatware set of sterling silver ware. It was $78 on sale so I ended up paying somewhere around $35 for it plus tax. Sent it to the refinery and got close to $700 for it.

Picked up a tiger lazer tag set new in box for $12. Sold for around $300

Also got a wallace grand baroque Sterling tea strainer for $2. Sold for $200

I have had quite a few small items where I paid $1-2 and made $100, but never a big ticket item like you guys have!

Yesterday, I sold a very strange cd called "Current 93 Current". I paid $2.00 at a thrift store out of town and it just went for $109.99.

One big gold score, an 8.5g 14k tie bar in a (tiny) $5 bag of men's jewelry. Best silver scores for size were a 250+ g sterling bowl for $14 at an antique mall and a 2 oz sterling cuff for .99 at GW. Best designer silver was a pair of Ed Levin earrings for around five bucks from a local store, sold on ebay for eighty bucks!

I bought a 1940's LeCoultre Amos clock from a local T.S. paid $50 for it, sold it for $450. I had $53 dollars in my pocket that day.......

Back when LEGOs were an hot item I bought a tub full at the local TS. Paid 30 made 300+. Tub full of old battery operated Thomas the Train. Paid once again 30 made 500+.

Best thrift store score was a geometrical abstract Scandinavian style sculpture. It was silver in color and really heavy. I thought it looked like an interesting piece and assumed it was lead plated with silver. I ended up buying it for $6.

It passed all the silver acid tests I threw at it. It had no hallmarks whatsoever. I drilled into it and melted the bits of silver material into a silver button on a potato (poor man's crucible).

I took the button to a local coin shop, he used an xrf machine and it came out as 99.3% silver. Total weight: 2300 grams. He offered 85% of spot price for it.

Its pretty beat up, only good for scrap; should I take the 85%?

85% would be around $1100. Yeah, I'd take that on a $6 investment.

This 18kt gold Chinese wedding bracelet. For $1.99.1.25ozt. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1462678081.380872.webp

I have the urge to write some b.s. story of meeting my wife of 30 years this July in a thrift store and how it has been nothing but peaches and cream and happily ever after..............................but I won't. LOL Even if you would believe I met her in a TS, you would never buy the happily ever after b.s. LOL

No idea what my best thrift store find was. I've picked up several gold items priced at $5 or less that I resold in the $1-500 range. My absolute best score of all time was a house I bought at the tax auction for $538. In my neck of the woods you have to pay taxes for an additional 3 years at which time you get the deed. After that I had to pay a lawyer to do a quiet title action. By the end of the deal I spent right around $3000. Sold the house for $54,500.

I found one of those Atmos clocks two weeks ago. Everything is there, it's level both ways, and I've adjusted the areas I can reach. It just won't keep running.... It's a 91,000 serial number and a 526-5 caliber. Wonderful concept to run on a 1 degree change in room temperature! Quiet as a mouse (especially when it doesn't stay running longer than 3 minutes...)

I'm curious as to the way you sold yours. Any pointers?

Thanks,
Bill

Bought this last week. Sterling service for 8 ~ $250. 1590 grams not including the knives. Heirloom sterling even had the serving pieces. Not for sale!

How do you know which ones are good?

Billjustbill, we put it on eBay. Started the bidding at $125(I was offered that much from someone in town) with a B.I.N. of $450. Bidding went to $275 over the course of 2-3 hours. Then out of the blue here comes a guy that paid the $450.....
