Hey everyone, I have a question. The area where I have found quite a bit of pottery and points is in an area that is going to be developed into 5 acre estates. They have already put in the drainage and roads and now seems to be sitting like this. They cut out three drainage ditches and in the 2nd and 3rd ditch is where we have found the Indian Artifacts. The first ditch so far has produced nothing, not even any flakes.
The 3rd ditch is approx. 150 to 200 feet from the 2nd ditch and in this area it is planted pine trees and the ground is covered with pine needles. You can not see anything but I thought about taking either a pitch fork or a rake and try removing some needles/debris and seeing if I can get to the sandy soil. Oh, and rocks are usually not found in this part of the country, the soil is very sandy so if I end up finding a rock, it is usually imported here from another area. Most the points that I have seen, seem to be Savannah river agate, but I have seen other materials too.
I will keep an eye on this spot and when they do start clearing out the land, I'll hopefully be there to hunt but in the mean time, what are your suggestions?

Thanks everyone for your time,

Mike

Howdy Mike. Raking is a good idea. Garden rake usually works the best. Also, after rainfall, check the surrounding area, because when they dug the drainage ditch's and did the grading, they probably spread stuff all over the area. Good luck!

This is how I "stumbled" across this site was by walking the graded areas and the ditches one day. Really found this place by accident. I was wanting to turn around and pulled off the main road and thought, "what the hey" I am already here, might as well see what there is.
I figure if the second ditch produced one arrowhead and a bunch of pottery along with flakes and In the third ditch, one arrowhead, one scraper and one spearhead were found along with flakes, there has to be more there. So, this is why I wanted to check out the area in between. I think I will start near the third ditch and there are a couple of older live oak trees not too far from this ditch.

It would be nice to find an ax or celt to compliment what has already been found.
