Found out in the "tool shed" Looks like some sort of fuel filter . Weighs over 5 pounds . The '' W C '' logo is probably the best clue . The insert is a very fine mesh screen w/ rubber gasket . The petcock at the bottom has Teflon tape on it . Did it go to a tractor .. a furnace .. a boat .. a 1 lunger engine ? Any insight on the logo ?
I bet it would look quite nice all polished up . Thanks !

I was thinking oil/water seperator for air lines, older style than i've seen. The petcock on the bottom is used for draining the water/oil out.

My bet would be a fuel strainer ,maybe from an oil furnace or stationary engine. The bail that holds the top on appears to be brass,i don't believe it would hold the pressure from an air compressor.

or, fuel filter to the car in Michigan Badger's post? ("today's finds")

;D

my guess would be part of a fuel (diesel) strainer/pump

Fuel/water seperator. Wilcox-Crittenden has been around since 1847. There would have been a cloth or paper element that wrapped around the upper cage. In use you drain the bottom petcock until the water (which sinks in the fuel) stops running out. Could very well have been for a truck or tractor, too. Diesel is diesel.

My Universal marine engine used Kubota tractor parts - for 1/3 the cost.
