Upgraded to a new AT Max this weekend and I haven't had much time to use it but I went today after work to an old field and pulled this button and and then this coin shortly after. If it's a civil war button it's my first and I haven't ID'd the coin yet. It's 30mm and I can make out the "DEI GRATIA" going around the crown and coat of arms. I have a feeling people will know it right away, please share if so. Thanks!

I'd need a picture of the other side to make an exact determination, but it looks to be a Portuguese Reis from the reign of John V.

That would put it somewhere between 1723 and 1744 if I'm correct. That's an awesome find; keep searching that field!

Nice going! Don't know the ID but it's a cool old find.

Yeah it looks like it's a John V 10 reis, I can see the "IOANNES". Here's the other side with the "X".

Not sure if I'll get a date, I've had it go both ways when I've cleaned that caked on dirt layer off. It's starting to dry up and flake off since being removed from the earth though, so it may be coming off anyways.

Thank you!

Not a coin we see very often. I love the design on these big old coppers
