My first time posting, but have enjoyed your forums for many years. Found this last week while I was picking up rock in a newly planted soybean field. We have a lot of glacial rock that has to be removed from the fields so we've been up close and personal with rocks over the years. Am I right in thinking this is a bird effigy? I'm so excited if it is! This was found in NE Iowa in an area that was originally prairie, but only a couple of miles from where the NE Iowa woodlands start. I have picked up rock on this farm for over 45 years and we have only found a couple of rock tools that we think were Native American. Any input would be appreciated!

Looks like a rock that once held a crinoid stem fossil.

I agree with Gopher, it's still cool though

I also agree that a crinoid stem fossil eroded out leaving the depression.

Keep it. Show the others you've found so we can see them.

These are a couple other things we found on that farm. The one rock has been drilled pretty deep with repeated use which is? The other is somewhat flattened on the scraped side and rounded on the other. Fits my hand perfectly. I appreciate all your replies and input!

No signs of drilling in picture, what it looks like is a hag stone which is natural.

Here is a picture of a bunch of hag stones.

Nope, that's not drilling. However, you have a good eye for anomalies. Keep at it!

Hag stones as stated above. Don't give up though. The more you look increases your odds of finding some artifacts.
