- Metal Detecting
I got up this morning and decided that I'd celebrate my birthday by going metal detecting. I hit a older part of town in hopes of finding some older coins. It didn't take me long to unearth a 1916 Mercury Dime in the grassy area between the curb and sidewalk.
I almost packed up and headed out to another site to search for gold rings since I had my silver coin for the day, but I decided to stay instead. It took me another hour or so before cornering another silver coin, a 1958 Rosie. After wearing myself out looking for more silver coins at this site, I decided to call it a day.
As usual I ride around looking for new sites to detect. I hit my brakes when I saw a guy out in his yard removing old grass to get it ready for some new sod. I introduced myself and asked if it would be OK for me to run my metal detector over his yard. He, looked a little hesitant, so I threw in IT'S MY BIRTHDAY. He said alright, but you'll have to detect today before the sod goes down.
Right out of the gate, I found a shallow 1943 Mercury Dime and not too far away I found a 1949 Washington Quarter. Happy Happy Happy! I thanked the owner for giving me his permission to detect his yard and headed for the house.
This was my 38th hunt for the year and my silver coin total for the year now stands at 114. All done without getting skunked on a single hunt.
My F75DST detector settings: 9.0, Sensitivity 95, DE Mode, 3H Tones, Disc Level 0, GB 59.
