Black material on rock.... any thoughts?

Hi,

New here I found this rock while walking through a rock gravel field.
Any idea what the black material is?
Could not find anything similar on the net.
I'm in Canada, Quebec.

Any help is welcomed.

The inclusions could be garnet, which, as I recall, ranges from red to black. There are people more expert than I, though, on this forum.
