Hey Hey,

I acquired these on eBay and I am not sure what they are. Anyone have any ideas?

Copper Planchet (smooth edge)
They are between 5.9 and 6.7 grams with the majority of them weighing 6.4 grams. They are the same diameter of a US Quarter.

Copper Planchet (reeded edge)
Same as above.

Small Copper and Brass(?) Planchet (smooth edge)
The small copper ones weight 2.9 grams, one is 2.5.

Odd Indian Head Penny (smooth edge)
The real one weighs 3.1 grams, the seemingly fake one on the left weighs 4.8 grams and sounds very different then the real one on the right.

Not sure about the planchets, perhaps foreign?

The 1863 Indian Head is authentic.

It is made out of 88% copper and 12% nickel (like all Indian Heads prior to mid-1864 and the flying eagle cent) and were commonly referred to as white cents, or even nickels. Today they are sometimes called "fatty" Indian Heads.

Thanks for the info Lad!

I'm thinking foreign on the planchets too. I might go through my container of foreign coins to try and match one up. Do you think they have any value?

I didn't know about "fatty cents". Thanks for teaching me something new!

That size is very popular, so it is fairly impossible to find a match. They could be slugs too.

They appear to me to be slugs of some sort. Made with a punch and sold as planchets. See it a lot
