Bought a turtle

Lady I got it from said her grandmother bought it back in her travels in South America or the Pacific. Have no idea what material it is, maybe clay, but sounds like wood or resin. No idea on the age but just dating from what she said, I'd say 75 years at least. Looking for info. Bought it cheap because I could tell it was old and, at least a little, unique. Any help is greatly appreciated. Measures about 7 in. X 5 in. Thanks in advance.
