Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Hi guys, :hello:

I am planning to buy a Metal Detector but I don't know how to choose them.. They are many brands of Metal Detector out there.. Bounty Hunter, Garrett, Minelab, Fisher and whatever... So, after I make some researched,... looks like a Bounty Hunter Junior would be a great first Metal Detector for me... So, may I know is it great for beginner like me?? How deep the Bounty Hunter Junior will be able to detect for 5 pence coin (18mm in diameter)?? 5 or 6 inch maybe??

Actually, I am in low budget so I cant buy an expensive Metal Detector... :tongue3:

Thank you! :hello2:

The BH Junior, although sized for kids, is a "real" metal detector, the circuit is a major revision of the TK4 which you can read a lot about in this forum. The BH Jr is manufactured both here in the USA and also in China under contract (the box will say where it was manufactured). It'll detect typical coins to a depth of about 5 - 6 inches. Like the TK4, within its limitations it does its job well. However....... it is sized for kids. If you're more than 4 1/2 feet tall, you'll get tired of using it in a hurry.

We also have an adult-size model that uses the same circuit, sold in the USA as the BH VLF, not to be confused with a much older model which is also called the VLF (obviously I'm not the one who decided what to name it!). I don't think it has distribution outside the USA.

That thing you posted a link to is a cheapie no-name Chinese unit which may or may not work, and if it doesn't, you're probably stuck with it.

The BH TK4 may be an ugly old design, but it's stood the test of time, it's still probably our most popular model. In my opinion, the lowest price metal detector you should be considering is the TK4. It's usually about $120 in the USA.

Nowadays you can get a pretty decent metal detector in the $200-300 (USA) range. Our BH Platinum, Fisher F2, and Teknetics Delta and Euroteks are regarded as offering exceptional value in this price range.
