Brass cherub or baby head

Found this at the site of an old logging town that was booming from 1880 to 1890. Brass with a cherub or baby face? Is it just a piece of furniture hardware? The back is flat.

It is some sort of decorative piece. It is impossible to get an exact ID as it could really could have gone on anything. Sill very cool and definitely period though.

Seeing as there's no hole through the 'finial' at the top, we know that it's not a drawer-pull.
With these two holes, which look like screw holes to me, I'm thinking it's furniture decoration.

Date wise, you have a number of decoration styles going here, I'm suggesting that it's 'a turn of the 20thc fantasy design'.
