Brass Hinged Egyptian Motif Disc?

I found this Egyptian Motif Disc at a site that dates back to at least the early 20’s, maybe earlier. What is it?

It has a hinged and has a flat spring prop on the back. I think the spring prop is so that when it’s open, it stays open, and when closed, it stays closed.a
