This came from a house site in southern Mississippi dating back to 1812. It looks like it was broken off on the left end. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You may have a piece of a trigger guard for a flintlock rifle or pistol. I know some people will say it's too big, but some of them were actually quite wide. Do a google image search for flintlock trigger guard and you may find something close.
