Found this brass plate yesterday, was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. Found on an 1840s farmhouse permission. Plate reads .

JUDSONS GOV. VALVE
MANUFACTURED
NO (?) AT
ROCHESTER N.Y.
PAT'D NOV. 5 1850

It's obviously for some kind of governing valve off a piece of machinery, but not sure what. Whatever it's from, definitely a cool find and happy to have found it! Any ideas or information would be appreciated. Thanks, and good luck out there!

That's great information, THANK YOU for that! Must have been some steam driven farm equipment. Neat piece of history.

Likely from a "portable" engine. These things were hardly portable by today's standards but revolutionized farming in the 19th C.

This one is from 1876. I have circled the governor. It's a "fly-ball" type. The 1850 version was a valve type.
