Brass Part with Hole for a Rod???

Howdy Folks. I hooked up with a budding detectorist and he found this brass piece. Looks look a "shaft" or rod would go into the hole. Just thinking it makes sense. Any ideas what it is? Thanks for your assistance.

An old pit cock(valve). That type was used as radiator or water hopper drains. The hole had a tapered rotating valve with a handle. The broken was probably 1/4 pipe.

If I get a chance tomorrow I'll get a pick of one on a hit & miss engine.
