In the 60's at a local State Park swimming pool we frequented they issued these pins that coordinated with a basket to keep your valuable in while you swam. We pinned them to our towels.

We used to get similar but more modern looking numbered pins when we went swimming at the local parks and such. This was around the early 60's. We'd change our cloths and put on the swim trunks, the cloths went into a basket which was "checked in" and we'd get a numbered safety pin which we'd pin to our trunks. When we were ready to leave we'd surrender the numbered pin and usually (not always!) get a basket with our cloths in them...or unfortunately occasionally you might get a basket we someone else's cloths which usually was only a pair of shorts or such. It was a long walk home barefooted.
