Brass Shoulder Scales Find

A few years ago while on my grandpa's place I came across this while metal detecting near some old homesteads. At first I was mostly finding nails, tin can remnants, and other scraps of metal; Then I came across this.

I actually found two of them but have misplaced the other. From what I could tell they were not a matched pair and no remnants of the riveted scales could be found.
