Any ideas. I think maybe a drawer pull, part of a pitcher / tea pot etc. , some kind of funeral decoration The item centered may be an urn
Found it near an old area right next to a road that also dates back a ways.

Close it is a furniture piece & it swivelled over a lock hole, so its a kind of lock hole cover.

I thought these were mostly circular, but I guess this could be right, I just have a distance memory of it in one of my many books. Can't be bothered to go through them all, so will agree with bed post cover.

Yeppers, I agree that it is a bed bolt cover for either Hepplewhite or Sheraton. Bed bolt covers were both round and oval.
