Broke the 1800's barrier with a ratty silver
Howdy all,
Had another great day detecting today. Met with Detectingfreak this mornin and got straight to it. We spent the better part of the day hunting soccer fields and getting nothing but clad, and trash. But somethin is better than nothin. We were headed to the final field of the day and guess what. An old ball field that I have been waiting on was finally huntable. Usually the grass and scrub is around 4 foot tall, and too dense to swing in. But lucky us today, it had been mowed down. I'm not sure of the age of the field but I am pretty sure there was a home there at one time. I was gettin everything from clad to older rifle casings. Then finally a better coin. At first I thought it was a small button due to the lack of detail and clay stuck to it. Turns out its a fire damaged 1893s barber dime. This is the first 1800's coin for me this year. I then noticed that some of the stumps were also charred. If there was a structure there back in the day it was probably burned down. Some of the other plugs I dug were also full of charcoal and broken glass. Needless to say this field shows much promise, and is now my new secret spot. lol. The depth of the barber was consistent with most other barbers I have recovered at 6 to 7 inches, so hopefully there are more. Luck in the hunt .
