found this up on a ridge on my farm in central Virginia. Does anyone know what it might be?

I don't know, but the shape looks like a bent door latch. (Edit: On second thought, it's too small for that. )

I don't know what a lap link is, but it looks like a broken repair link to me.

iron trace DEE- bolt and roller is my guess.

Items were really affordable back in those days.
I had to refresh my mind on what a "Gross" amount was = 12 dozen/72 pairs

note the hole and pin on the relic, unlike a lap link.
I agree, though were all lap links created the same from day one?
I just wanted to show PPH what a lap link was.

Here’s the part in context of other items found upmountain. The chain was a quarter mile away, but it’s all the same use area.

I see how it could be one of those parts, and that’s sort of what I thought. The “eye” with the short part going through it seems unnecessarily complicated for a lap link, but about right for harness and trace parts.

It is an older style link. The one pepper posted is the newer style but does the same thing. A lap link is a connector link.

I have several of those lap links on display, along with complete repair links the OP posted. I have always called them repair links. I guess they serve the same purpose, repairing broken chains. So now they have a name...lap link.
