found this on old farm homestead site

had corroded iron inside lid, and flowers had iron inserts

any ideas

With the holes in the flowers I'd guess pounce pot lid.

I'm pretty sure that's the face cap of a hollow metal door knob

Both a Pounce lid, and door knob cap are possibilities, somebody also said a snuff box

It looks like the holes in the flowers are deliberate. Also has a knurled edge like a screw top. Not a door knob and snuff box lid wouldn't have holes.

It's made to let something out through the holes. Salt? Sand? Smoke? Aroma?

Could be a tobacco pipe lid or a potpourri lid as well...
