? ? ?This is one of those Mystery Pieces that I found? near Albany N.Y. a few month ago ..Still have not found out what it is.? any suggestions would be great......You can see in the picture it has 3 sides , it was found down under a tree root about 12 inches .the piece hit like a bomb and was found along with large cents and colonial coppers....The items in the pic were found on our adventures that Day.....Seeker? ? ?:)

The photo doesn't show the whole thing, but it looks to me like the tang of a wood-lathe tool which would have originally had a wooden handle covering it. The handle is longer than the "business end" of it to help make accurate cuts on a piece of spinning wood. But then again, usually such tools would be made of steel. Just a guess though...but a picture of the whole thing would help (even though its just a very small part we can't see).
