OH dang! I'll step aside and let the experts here id that find, but it DOES look like a DEFINATE keeper to me!!! WoW!

Congrats! Nana :)

nice find !! the only info i have is,, i think i lost it in the exact spot you got it at...... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Great condition, great find, dunno anything about the history of it though.

maybe PBK can ID with the new picture

Take another look at your find--then look at your avatar. Seems to me that you've found 1/2 of an interlocking clasp designed to be operated just like the one in your avatar. The one you found has a rounded depression to the left side of the rosette to accept a ringed piece on the other half. There seems to be a little bit of gold gilding on the round portion.

I'm not sure I've explained my idea very well. :-\

Beautiful. Deffinately looks to be Civil War Era to me

Here is one on Ebay for $38.00 with a day left. Its not exact but its close.
Yours is in much better shape.

That is a Federal two piece buckle....that being 1/2 of the buckle. General Service Buckle showing the Eagle with a shield covered by the stripes of the U.S. Flag(Union)..... I have some of the General Service Eagle buttons worn by northern soldiers. Got them off the battlefields here in Virginia....They match your buckle.....This design was used before the Civil War as well as during it and after for a bit. Your piece would interlock into the center of another piece which would make up the whole buckle. Here is a picture of a similar one of what you have although the design is abit different and shows "U.S." instead of the Eagle. But both were used quite often.

P.S.--The one posted above is a fake
