Found back up in the woods about 5" down. It's lead and there are nothing but dried up creekbeds around so I don't think is a fishing weight.
The woods are part of a land grant from 1780 Southwestern Wake county NC

Can’t tell exact size, but I’d say it’s non-plated buckshot….modern. 00 is .33” dia and 000 is .36” dia. Doesn’t appear to have much patina, however ground conditions can limit/prevent formation of patina.

I did clean it up a bit with some WD 40
