I'm no bullet expert but if I had to guess I would say around the turn of the century

You really should measure the diameter of the bullet to know for sure. Looks about like a .32

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard Umbrahabitator! Take a look at Forum: Illinois for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

2nd - I pulled this from another TN thread...

Thank you for the ID chart and sorry for the long-delayed reply. I gave up on finding a pair of calipers and just went with a ruler, the best I can tell is that it is 3/8" at the base... much too small to be civil war I think... but it looks the style and age to be a baby Sharps . 20200701_072948(0).webp20200701_073020.webp

Thank you

3/8" converts to about a .36 cal bullet that is about .69"s long. Maybe someone here can come up with a bullet with those measurements before I can research it further. Are the grooves plain or are there tiny ridges in them?

The bullet does not appear to have had grooves at any point in time. I noticed that the uppermost ring transitions to a raised ring before receding to the bullet head. I tried to re-measure in metric to provide hopefully more accurate measurements. Bullet.webp

Thank you

the size is about right for .38 S&W, the smooth groves would make me think mid 1880's or earlier

Did some google images searching, I found one that looked very similar and I believe that is what it is, thank you for the ID
