Found this yesterday at civil war pickett site. Measures approx. .57 in inside diameter. My question is who did they belong to. Union? Maybe, but they were well provisioned not to need to make bullets in the field, especially round balls. Confederate, more likely. Plantation owner. I think about this a lot when I find round balls. What type of guns did plantation owners have pre war? .58 caliber is awful big to hunt with... maybe self - defense. Any ideas? IMG_1815.webpIMG_1816.webp

sweet find i have always wanted to fine one of those keep digging

very cool, I figure that there was a lot of re-use of already fired lead when found, especially in the south where many probably cast their own.

DANG THING LOOKS BRAND NEW . NICE OLE RELIC FIND...

Id take that over musket balls any day!

Congrats!

History in hand, wonderful find.
