Rusty? It's hard to say but possibly a full metal jacket .38 Special. A friend had some left over from his MP days. It appears to be too long to be a .380 or .38 Super.
However at this point, it's just a guess.

I think stoney56 nailed it. Old bullets were usually lead and lead doesn't rust as far as I know. Your bullet is probably no older than 30 years, if that. Still, they are fun to dig up (unless they are in a school yard or park...then I gotta wonder what the heck was going on).

So, I was detecting in a Detroit park today....lol, ok just kidding

Wow...I thought it looked older.
I know nothing about older bullets or bullet casing (which I really "do" find alot of)
And yeah, they're somewhat fun to dig....and necessary because they give a tone like coin.

Sure cleaned up nice for being rusty!
Still a neat find...better that the modern casings I find.

Well, it can be considered older as they used them in the military from WWII on. Some revolvers were issued to pilots and others to investigators.
