Went back to the swamp I've been hunting. With the intermittent rain it has become a great mosquito farm. I found the shell frag under a large tree; it's as if the roots left a spot for me to get the piece out of the ground. The mud could be scooped out by hand making a tunnel right to the target. I think I'll try electrolysis on the piece of shell.
Anyway,, a nice assortment of bullets: 3-ringers (one deeply swaged), a Sharps variant, a round ball, a Williams cleaner and another bullet with 3 rings but solid base and smaller caliber,, maybe revolving rifle? I'll have to look into it. I think this place is going to be producing for a long time; it was probably hunted long ago but with an earlier machine because although there are plenty of targets they are all deep.
