Bullshead Silver in the gold commissioner's camp
Hi Folks ,
History of Site A large Sheep Station existed on the Myer's Creek before gold was discovered by a stockman by the name Kelly ,while looking for a couple of run away horses in 1852.
Law Enforcement On the Victorian Goldfields in the early 1850's was controlled by Gold Commissioners and the police force.Gold Commissioner,s were appointed to collect a licence fee ,settle claim boundary disputes and to make the local rules.Mr C Rudston Read an ex-navy officer, was appointed as an Assistant Commissioner On the Bendigo Goldfields at the Myer's Creek Ward.
He noted is Arrival in 1852
Having fixed upon a spot near the bend in the creek near Mr Myer's sheep station,as soon as the drays arrived we commenced to pitch the tents in the form of a semicircle ,the party consisted of a sergeant and nine foot police ,also my tent Keeper or servant.
Yesterday afternoon was mild to warm spring day ,I went to the site on the bend of the creek and spent about 4 hours digging up targets, I had a good day considering the site has been done over by many others over the years.
