This story begs the question: If the two men buried the gold when the natives laid siege to their dwelling and then killed them both when they set fire to it, by default, no one knows that they buried anything as dead men tell no tales...

That story just makes no sense to my feeble brain. Bet a bunch of digging was done there at the cave.
