found this in a civil war area. I think it's brass. reminds me of a modern burning tip for a oxy burning torch. Any ideas?

It's difficult to see what the inside (if there is an inside) looks like. Is it hollow, or does it appear to be closed off inside? It may be a device to link/join electric lines. Any overhead lines nearby?

What is written on it? Looks like a stylized "r."

Gotta know what is marked on it, looks like something from a musical instrument, a horn of some sort.

Did you find this near power lines? I found something just like that before and it turned out to be some type of wire splicer/connector.

Pic #3 looks like it has a patent number.
You can just look it up.

That's exactly what it is. An automatic splice for overhead power lines. [emoji106]
