The end of the whatsit looks like a skeleton key, and to me it looks like it is bent intentionally.
The end of the "key" (opposite of the skeleton key-like head) looks as though it has broken off of something. It is also a bit raised near that end.
The button is probably the coolest one I have ever found. It reads Erin Go Bragh, meaning Ireland forever. The rest of the backmark reads E & B and "rich treble standard". At least I think it says treble standard.
There is no design on the other side of the button. It is the exactly the size of a cent.
I spent quite a long time trying to learn more about the button, but I couldn't seem to find anything. Any help identifying these things would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with the key. May have been modified for some other use.
The button folks should be along to tell you about that.

Nice finds.

Is the key hollow at the end?

Your key reminds me of a bottle opener...
However, in pic 2 you can clearly see it is a broken key
No idea on your button.
