Button Buttons Buttons!!!

ok only one button but its like none other I have ever found... I have found Civil War buttons WWI Buttons WWII Buttons Army, Navy & Air Force Buttons... Overall buttons... jean buttons suspender buttons and even ceramic & pewter underwear buttons... I have never found a button like this...

of course I have questions... F.D = Fire Department? ok where is the second . (period)
How old is it?
What was it on?

I can't read it either... I'll try to get a better picture tomorrow.
